Couponing Misadventures

So I have to admit that usually my problems couponing are my fault. Either I haven't planned well or I forget a coupon at checkout and then have to go back to the store and refund and re-buy. Anyway, I am getting better. So today I go to Walgreens and have everything written out on a notecard to organize myself. The less-than-enthusiastic cashier rings me up and and rings up the 5 coupons I give him (or so I thought). I get to the car, buckle Elizabeth in and promise her we are headed to the library. I get in the driver's seat and look at my receipt. He forgot to ring up my $3 coupon!!!! Plus I was $2 shy of spending $25 which would've gotten me another 1200 points. So.....I pull Elizabeth out of her carseat with her screaming "library! library!" and go back to the register. I tell the cashier that he forgot my coupon. He opens his register and finds the coupon. He returns my product and re-rings it up with the coupon. Well, he tries. The coupon is no longer scanning. He calls a manager. There is now a line of people behind me. The manager can't figure it out. I look down and realize he has only rung me up for 2 items and the coupon requires 3. I tell him and he "fixes" it. Back to the car, buckle Elizabeth again, again tell her we are headed to the library. Get in the driver's seat and look at my receipt. (You would think I would've learned my lesson the first time.) Because he only rung me up for 2 items I didn't get my 3000 points, not to mention I have no idea if he refunded me 3 items in the first place or only 2! So here was my dilemma; go back in the store a third time? Or lose out on 3,000 points and pay $6 for a product I don't have. So I take my screaming toddler ("noooooo! library!) back into the store with all my bags. I tell the cashier what happened and he calls a different manager. Thankfully she takes me to a different register away from everyone so I am not as embarrassed! We decided to just refund everything and start over from scratch. She rings me up and we add some candy bars to bring my total above $25 so I get more points. After all was said and done I ended up earning close to 7,000 points (equivalent to about $7) and get two coupons for $3 off my next visit! I just hope everything was refunded to my credit card correctly. When I got home I realized that she forgot to ring up a store coupon I had used that would've saved me another $1.50...but I'm not going back!!! Live and learn I guess. Oh, and I gave Elizabeth one of the candy bars for her trouble.

She's A Big'un!

Today was my 35 week check-up and when the OB looked at the ultrasound he said, "Well, she's not going to be small." I knew it! I keep telling Josh that she is going to be a "big'un".  I asked if he could tell if she had dropped yet. He said that with first time moms that usually doesn't happen until a couple weeks before, but that he would check. Well, we found out she has dropped a little. I told him that I could sometimes feel her brushing up against my cervix. Also, I am already 30% effaced...so hopefully she comes a couple days early...because she is only going to continue to get bigger!!!!! We went to Babies R Us again today (we go like twice a week and use a 20% off coupon each time to get more things we need). Today we looked at bouncers and bought a diaper pail. At Motherhood Maternity we exchanged a maternity sweater for a nursing camisole. So we are getting there. The pack and play is set up, her room and closet are almost ready. I need to pack our bag for the hospital and then we will be ready for her whenever she decides she is done baking! We also went to the grocery store and bought 2 filet mignons on sale (only $11 total) to cook on our anniversary in one week ;)

It's a Girl!

We found out that our baby is a girl. Elizabeth will be her name. More than likely Elizabeth Ann Zaffos. The original plan was for her to be Elizabeth Jane after my great great grandmother. We like Ann though because Josh's grandmother is Anna, Josh's middle name is Andrew, and my sisters name is LeAnn. So we thought we could incorporate a lot of family that we love in to one simple middle name! I was so used to the idea of a boy that it is taking me a minute to get used to the thought of a girl. I had a dream about her a week or so ago (before the ultrasound) and she was really beautiful, so hopefully that comes true! Josh has been offered a lot more interviews. He is taking Step 2 of his medical boards right now! He was so nervous last night. He just wants to do really well so he can get more ophthalmology interviews.

Oh my goodness!

My last post was October 2009?! Ludicrous! I guess wedding planning got the best of me last winter and now pregnancy has kept me busy. I am halfway through this pregnancy finally! I still don't feel good. I have been waaaaaaaaaaaay too tired so they finally drew some blood and found I was slightly anemic. So hopefully the Iron I have been taking will give me some energy back. The baby is pushing on my spine and so I have had terrible coccyx (tail bone) pain for the last couple of weeks and about two days ago sciatica kicked in. =(  In good new though, Josh did EXTREMELY well on his Surgery shelf (exam) and has already received 3 interview offers for residency. So we are super excited about that. The locations, so far, are Augusta GA, Gainesville FL, and Akron OH.

Pet Peeves

#1. Annoying Coworkers
I don't think any of them will ever read this, so I think I am safe. There is one coworker who ALWAYS grabs me when I first come into the office. All I want to do is settle in, read my email, and get started on my very busy day. My time in the office is so very precious to me! But no. He always baits me by asking a question about me, acting like he is interested, and after my brief answer he jumps in with a story about him, and talks, and talks, and talks. Before I know it an hour (not exaggerating) will have gone by and I still haven't started working so I end up staying late. Please stop talking to me!!!!!

#2. Close Parkers
I pushed my shopping cart to my car yesterday after getting groceries. I start to unload my car and I see that there is a car waiting on me for my spot. Yes, I had the coveted first spot after the handicap spots. But here is the thing, the spot RIGHT NEXT TO ME was open! He was waiting on me when he could have just pulled in and parked ONE spot over. Lame.

#3. This morning when I parked my car I noticed someone who is not my coworker park next to me. We don't have lined parking stalls and so people sometimes park too far apart from each other which makes it so that some of us don't fit. This guy works in the next building over but is too lazy to park next to his building so he uses our precious spots! And THEN, he parks like 4 feet from me. Not enough room for someone to fit in between. What a jerk! I gave him the evil eye.

I also have a funny Turtle story to tell, but I have to go take a fitness test, so I will blog about it later. =)

Captain Obvious

Don't you hate those people who point out the obvious? Maybe if they showed up to work on time, then they wouldn't make such comments. For example, the other day the a/c broke in my office. Luckily, this week the lows at night have been in the mid 60's and the mornings cool with a breeze...so everybody in the office opened up their windows and doors to the outside to prep for the dreaded afternoon heat. One co-worker came in after the fact and stated, "Is the air-conditioner broken?" I had to bite my tongue to not say, "No, we just felt like we don't get enough of the Georgia heat and I thoroughly enjoy booty sweat." So, in fact, nobody responded to her. Determined, she rephrased her question, "What is wrong with the air-conditioner, is it broken?" I think most of my co-workers felt as I did because, again, there was complete silence in the office as she was left to figure it out for herself.

Seattle Half-Marathon

Here are the pictures from the Seattle Half Marathon in June. I hurt my knee pretty bad running it and still can't train for the Virginia Beach Half Marathon which is in 3 weeks! I may have to, sigh, walk the 13 miles. =(

My Cup Runneth Under

LOL. So this morning I attempted another 4:45am workout. I packed my clothes, including my towel, the night before so I wouldn't forget anything. I woke up at 4am...well okay, I hit snooze once, waking up at 4:05am. I worked out with my students and had a good time. After that workout I headed to the gym to do 4 miles on the elliptical (my knees still hurt to run). It is then that I realized "Oh my gosh! I forgot to pack a bra!" The sports bra I am wearing is soaked in sweat from the Georgia humidity and 80 degree weather (yes at 5am even). So I call a coworker and ask her to bring an extra bra for me. I am an "A" cup, it is no secret, and my coworker is a "D" cup! Ha ha! So I asked her to bring a sports bra so the deficit won't be so noticeable. Yes, I could drive home, but that would take me 30 minutes there and 45 minutes back due to gate traffic, so I will just deal with it. I could run to the PX on my lunch break and buy one....we'll see. Ah, the capers involved in the life of an Army nurse!

Towel please?

Oy ve! So I woke up at 4am this morning to work out with my students doing what the Army calls PT (Physical Training). We were in the middle of flutter kicks when the commander and 1sgt (1st sergeant) decide to cut PT short because the barracks were filthy and the students had to go clean them before the new General came through for an inspection. I don't blame them, I wouldn't want to be embarrassed by these students in front of a General either, but I was dissapointed because I had woke up so early! So I walked for a little bit and then ran about a mile and half. I have been rehabbing my knees since the half marathon so this was a good achievement for me. I got to work and jumped in the shower when I realized that I left my towel in my office!!! So I used my PT shirt to wrap up my soaking wet hair and dried off with about10 paper towels. Luckily I am petite or I may have used the whole roll! Ha ha! It was just a funny situation to be in.

Poor Sheba!

Well, I made the appointment today for Sheba to be declawed. After much thought I have decided to get rid of both front and back claws. It is selfish, but my furniture was REALLY expensive! And if I want to have babies soon I don't want her scratching them. So I am really apprehensive about the whole thing! Like a worried mama! Her surgery is scheduled for August 3rd and I am probably going to be sick to my stomach until August 4th. I feel this immense amount of guilt, but it must be done. So Sheba, enjoy your climbing days for the next three weeks!

The Greatest Man

My Fiance is the most amazing man in the world. I don't know what I did in this life to deserve him (maybe it was something I did in my former life), but he is absolutely the Yin to my Yang. When I am feeling insecure he tells me how wonderful I am. When I am freaking out about losing my temple recommend he helps me retrace my steps. When I am having road rage at the guy coming into my lane he...well, he usually makes me more upset by telling me to calm down, but that's my own fault and bad behavior. He teaches me so much about life and helps me to become a better person. He takes interest in everything in my life, he calls my sister by her nickname (Lee Lee), he handles all his trials with amazing faith. I hope that one day our children take on all of these amazing traits he has (and none of the mischievous behavior of his childhood)! I miss him and can't wait to see him when I get home from Seattle.

What is Heavenly Father trying to teach us?

Another disappointing blow to Josh this morning. For the last 9 months his eyes have not been working correctly. He has had a hard time studying without getting eye strain and headaches. Somehow he made it through his 2nd year of med school with a B average! I am so proud of him! We think we finally found an Optometrist who can help. He put atropine drops in Josh's eyes and gave him a new prescription. With all the delay in studying Josh has had to put of taking his boards until July and this means taking 2 months off of med school. The boards pretty much determine what specialty you will go into and Josh really wants to be an ophthalmologist (ironic, we know). He needs to do well on this test so we felt it was for the best to delay his boards 2 weeks. Well....he noticed some redness on his sclera (the white part of your eye) the other day and the Optometrist assured him it wasn't conjunctivitis ("pink eye") but most likely dry eye and told Josh to continue wearing his contacts. Josh has been religiously applying lubricating eye drops and even bought a humidifier to keep his eyes moist. This morning he woke up with severe pain in his eyes and his sclera is completely red on both eyes! His eyes were puffy and he could barely open them. I had to go to church without him. We are trying not to ask "why?" but instead "what?" What are we supposed to learn from this? What is the plan for us? If Josh can't study, how will he take his boards? Josh is the most intelligent man I know (sorry dad, you've been replaced) and I want this to be reflected on his test score so he can achieve his dream. Please pray for him and his eyes. Josh remains faithful, but after 9 months of this I don't know how much more he can take.

Engagement!

We met playing "Clue" at a YSA activity and that is how he proposed on May 8th. Check out the pictures of the game pieces he made! They look so real. He is so creative and wonderful! I am a very lucky girl. We are going to be sealed in Orlando, FL in December.

Passover

I had such a great time with Josh and his grandparents for Passover. My first ever Seder! It was fantastic and I feel like I caught on fairly quickly. I am already looking forward to next year. We had a little car trouble (blame it on the Davey Vaca Curse) but other than that we had a great time!

I love to see the (Columbia) Temple

I feel so blessed to have been able to finally make it to the Temple! And even better to have 4 family members, members from my ward, and the best boyfriend there with me! I am so glad that LeAnn could make it to to be there to support me. I am looking forward to going again next Saturday for Laney and Andrew's wedding. It was also a blast to have a bbq back at my house with the Davey/Zaffos families. Hopefully our families will have a chance to hang out together again soon =)

Doctor Prom

I went to Josh's Doctor Prom for medical school last night and had such a wonderful time!!!! Josh is an awesome dancer and because I LOVE to dance it is so great to have a boyfriend who has got some moves! He surprised me for dinner too. He tricked me into thinking we were going to Bonefish Grill (which is a great restaurant) and instead took me to a really fancy French restaurant that I have been wanting to try!!! He is THE best boyfriend in the world!

Family Reunion

3 more weeks until my family will be in Georgia!!! I am so excited! So many wonderful things coming. I am going to a Nurse Educator's conference in Saint Simons Island this weekend and next weekend is Josh's Dr Prom. Then the weekend after that my family and Josh's family will meet for the first time. I just feel so blessed! I really love Josh's family, they have been absolutely wonderful to me. And of course I love my family so I think I will have a really good time. I had a great Valentine's Weekend with Josh in Atlanta. He is pretty much the best boyfriend ever.
